2009 is here! It’s time for those new year resolutions.

January 7th, 2009 by

I’m not a fan of resolutions as they end up being vague and I normally give up after a couple of months. Instead in 2008 I decided to set myself a goal, something I wanted to achieve by the end of the year.

Last year I started getting into running and set myself a goal to run a 10 km race. After easing myself into the idea of running in a race by running the 5 km Race for Life, I then completed two 10 km runs.

In 2009 my goal is to run a half marathon! Not sure when and which one, but I am definitely up for the challenge. I also figured now I have written this is in black and white there is no going back on my word.

I have been asking people I know what their resolutions are and so far everybody seems to be going with the normal, quit smoking, get fit, eat healthy, and be nice. All of which are great (if you stick to them), but why not decide to do something different this year? A couple of years ago a friend said to me that he wanted to try something new ever month, from eating a different food, to learning a new skill. I really like the sound of this, but don’t think I would be able to keep it up.

Do you have any different resolutions? Or something you would like to achieve in 2009?

Good luck with the half marathon! I will be sticking to 10km’s!

I agree with you that there’s no point having loads of vague, unachievable resolutions which you go into half heartedly and give up on by February

The classic is the January Detox. What the hell is the point!!!!!! January is a cold, miserable month. Go out and enjoy I say, and you know that red wine and chocolate is good for you, it is proven!

For 2009 I have a few goals that I’d like to follow up on, but if there’s one thing I would like to change is to stand up for myself more. So look out for the new, no more pushover Nicola!
