Cloud hosting – sounds cool, but what does it mean?

December 8th, 2008 by

“Cloud hosting”, “utility computing”, “the grid”, “VPS”, and “virtual containers” are huge buzzwords in the hosting industry. They all sound really cool (to me at least), but is it something truly new and useful or just the latest trend in marketing hype?

Web hosting 2.0 anyone?

Well, you’re not alone – even for industry insiders like me it can be pretty difficult cutting through the hype and working out what a provider is actually selling. Carlos from vps.net (our upcoming ‘cloud’ brand) gives a really nice explanation of what’s actually going on.

If you’re interested in this kind of stuff (and who isn’t), I recommend you check out his full article Fluffy VPS Cloud on the site.
