.xxx Domain Registration Best Practises

All .xxx domain registrants have to agree to Best Business Practices at the time of registration which will in turn result in greater visitor confidence in .xxx domains and can provide greater customer retention, more predictable and stable revenue streams and an altogether more responsible online presence.

IFFOR, International Foundation for Online Responsibility, are responsible for developing and implementing the set of practices, listed below, to effectively self-regulate the adult industry. All .xxx registrants are contractually obliged to agree to the following:

  • Safeguard children from online marketing and targeting.
  • Defend the privacy of customers.
  • Ensure that accurate labelling and meta-tagging is undertaken.
  • Ensure the security of transactions and contact information, and clear and accurate disclosures.
  • Protect intellectual property rights
  • Combat unlawful malicious code and technology usage, for example spoofing.
  • Oppose Spam in the form of fraudulent, anonymous or unsolicited adult entertainment advertising.

Sunrise Adult Trademark (AT) and Adult Domain (AD)

Commences September 2011 - Duration 30 days

This phase is applicable if you have an existing Adult trademark or if you have an existing Adult domain in order to protect your existing brand, if no applications are received in this phase the domain will be open for anyone to register in Landrush or General Availability. Please note domain applications during Sunrise AT (Adult Trademark) and Sunrise AD (Existing Adult Domain) will receive priority over Sunrise SRB (Non-Community Trademark) applications.

Sunrise AT

You will need to supply the following Trademark information* with your application:

  • The Registered Trademark
  • Registration Number
  • Registration Country
  • Application Date
  • Registration Date
  • Applicant Capacity (Owner, Licensee or Assignee)
  • Registration Class(es)

Sunrise AD

If you currently own an adult domain in a gTLD or ccTLD such as myxxxsite.com and would like to apply for myxxxsite.xxx, you should apply in this phase to maximise your chances of securing the domain.

Pre-existing adult domain names must have been registered prior to 00:00 UTC 1st February 2010 and be in active use. Please note that this excludes domains used for parking or forwarding.

All sunrise phases run together and are not first come first served, if more than one application is received for a domain during sunrise the domain will be entered into an auction with the applicants having the opportunity to bid for the domain. Please note UK2 will not run this, the auctions are run by pool.com and regulated by the .xxx registry and applicants will be contacted if this occurs.

Sunrise SRB (Non-Community Trademark)

Commences September 2011 - Duration 30 days

You should apply for this phase if you are a trademark holder and wish to have your existing brand protected from .xxx registration, this will not register the domain but will block anyone else being able to use it.

Successful application during this phase will not result in a domain name. Domains will resolve to a standard plain page indicating only that the domain is reserved from use through the ICM registry's rights protection program.

Standard registry contact details will be contained within the domain WHOIS.

Domain applications during Sunrise AT (Adult Trademark) and Sunrise AD (Existing Adult Domain) will receive priority over Sunrise SRB (Non-Community Trademark) applications.

.xxx Sunrise SRB (Non-Community Trademark) applications are one-off fees and non-refundable.

Landrush

Commences October November 2011 - Duration 14 days

If you're not an existing trademark or adult domain holder then Landrush is your first opportunity to secure an .xxx domain. Most of the valuable generic domains traditionally go at this stage and it's open for anyone to apply.

If more than one application is received for a domain during sunrise the domain will be entered into an auction with the applicants having the opportunity to bid for the domain. Please note UK2 will not run this, the auctions are run by pool.com and regulated by the .xxx registry and applicants will be contacted if this occurs.

.xxx Landrush auctions will be held during the time following the Landrush phase before General Availability.

Applications for the Landrush phase are non-refundable.

General Registration

Commences December 2011

Apply for this phase if you wish to get into the queue for the release of the .xxx domain for public registrations, just like any other existing domain. Just like any queue the sooner you get in the better!
