Setup a WordPress Blog in 5 minutes
Step 1:
First and foremost you need a web hosting package and a domain name. The domain name will be the actual name of your blog.
Select the hosting package you require – I have chosen the UK2 Home Hosting package as it comes with ample room to run and maintain a blog plus you get a free domain name included with it. After selecting the hosting package, enter your domain name – making sure it is available. In this case I have chosen www.setupwordpressblog.com
After the order is complete select the ‘Take me to my account’ link which you’ll see on the confirmation page. This will take you to your UK2 control panel.
NB: You may need to wait up to 24 hours before completing the next steps depending as once you have purchased the domain name and setup your hosting package, your site will initially point to a UK2 holding page and this can take up to 24 hours to point to your new site.
Step 2:
Once inside the dashboard, select Web Hosting and then click on your domain to take you through to the cPanel. You will have to login to your cPanel here.
Step 3:
Near the bottom of your cPanel page, in the Software menu, click on Softaculous. This is the one-click installer which enables you to setup blogs, Content Management Systems, galleries etc. at the click of a button.
Step 4:
Inside the Softaculous menu, you will see a number of drop-down boxes on your left. Select Blogs and then Select Worpress. There are 2 versions of WordPress on here – one of them is WordPress MU which allows you to run your particular blog on a number of different domains. Make sure you select the correct one – Select the standard WordPress for this. If you install the wrong one then select ‘All Installations’ which is at the top right of the screen, and then select delete – a big red X on the right.
Step 5:
After selecting WordPress it will give you the option to install – click install to proceed.
Step 6:
Step 6 will take you to the Software Setup page. There a number of settings to configure here and I have listed the important ones below – please click on the Software Settings image for further explanation.
1. Choose Protocol – select the drop down box and select the http://www option
2. In Directory – it’s best to leave this blank.
3. Site Name & Description – personalise this accordingly
4. Admin Password – please change this to something you’ll remember to make it more secure. Try to avoid using your name or words like password.
NB: Remember your login details and keep them safe!
*Click Install*
***Check e-mail: A confirmation e-mail will be sent your e-mail address, detailing your URL, login details plus your database details. Store this as you may need to come back to it for important information.
Step 7.
This will take you to the confirmation page where it will confirm your blog URL and your admin login URL. You can now access your blog on the internet! Please make a note of these URLS’s.
Step 8:
Login to the admin portal of your blog. This is normally the same address as your blog with the extension /wp-admin.php at the end. So my login would be www.setupwordpressblog.com/wp-admin.php
This will take you straight to your WordPress Dashboard where you can edit your layout, themes, settings etc.
Step 9:
Inside your blog’s dashboard you’ll have the option to edit your layout, themes, settings etc. Play around with these and see which settings you like best.
Step 10:
Get writing & start blogging!
Good Luck from the UK2 Marketing team.
