How to build your first website with Launch

How to build your first website with Launch by UK2

With Launch by UK2, our AI website builder, you describe the website you want in your own words, and it builds it for you. No design or tech skills needed.

This guide takes you through your first website, one step at a time. It takes about 20 minutes, and most of that is waiting while the builder does the work.

Before you start, it helps to have these to hand:
Your business name and what you do
Your services or products, and your prices
Your opening hours and the areas you cover
Any colours you’d like to use

Don’t have it all? No problem. The builder will fill any gaps with example text that you can change later.

A few words you’ll see

  • Prompt: the message you type to tell the builder what you want. It’s just like sending a text.
Credits: each message you send to the builder uses some credits, a bit like data on a phone plan. Your balance is shown next to where you type.
Preview: the window on the right that shows your website as it’s being built. Only you can see it.

Build your first website, step by step

1. Open the builder

You’ll see a box under the words “You can just build things.” This is where you describe your website.

If a box pops up asking you to set up your workspace, you can fill it in now or click Maybe later.

2. Choose Plan

Click Auto at the bottom of the box, then choose Plan. The builder will then show you what it’s going to make and wait for your OK before it starts. It’s the best choice for your first website.

3. Describe your website

Type a description of your website into the box, then press Enter. Not sure what to write? See Tips for describing your website below.

4. Answer a few quick questions

The builder may ask you a few questions, such as how you’d like to receive messages from your contact form. Click the answer that suits you, then click Continue.

Not sure? Click Skip and the builder will choose for you.

5. Check the plan

The builder shows you a plan of everything it’s going to create. Have a read through.

  • Happy with it? Click Yes.

  • Want something changed? Click Not yet, then tell the builder what to change.

6. Wait while it builds

Your first website usually takes around 15 minutes to build. You’ll see the builder working away on the left. Under your message there’s a credits number: if it keeps going up, the builder is still busy, so don’t worry if it looks quiet for a while.

Want to know when it’s done? Click Enable on the notification bar.

7. Take a look

When it’s finished, your new website appears on the right. On the left, the builder explains what it’s made.

Look out for anything it’s filled in with example text, like a phone number or customer reviews. Swap these for your real details before you publish.

Tips for describing your website

The more you tell the builder, the closer your first version will be to what you want. That means fewer changes later, which saves credits.

Try to include:

  • Your business name and what you do
    Where you’re based
The look you’d like, such as colours and style (friendly, bold, simple)
The sections you want, such as services, prices, reviews and a contact form
Your real details, such as prices, opening hours and headlines
“Use UK English”, so you get colour rather than color

Here’s a good example:

Build a website for Fern & Fade, a friendly hair salon in Brighton. Modern, calm look in forest green and soft white. Include our services with prices (women’s cut and finish £45, men’s cut £25, colour from £65), meet the team, reviews, opening hours and a form for appointment requests. Use UK English.

Something short like “Make me a website for my hair salon” will still work. You’ll just spend more time (and credits) making changes afterwards.

Forgotten something? Don’t worry. The builder will ask if it needs more information, and you can always make changes later.

Making changes

Your first version is just a starting point, and changing it is easy. There are two ways to do it.

Ask the builder. Type what you’d like changed into the box, just like before. The more specific, the better:

  • Instead of: “Make it look better”

  • Try: “Make the buttons bigger and change the reviews background to light grey”

Change it yourself. Use the toolbar at the bottom of your website preview.

The toolbar: Edit design, text, draw and comment

  • Edit design: click any part of your page to change it, or click Site styles to change the fonts and colours across your whole website. Click Save when you’re done.

  • T: click any outlined text and type your new wording.

  • Pen: draw on the page to show the builder what you mean, then describe the change in the box.

  • Speech bubble: leave a note on part of the page.

Changed your mind? Under each of the builder’s replies, click Restore this version to take your website back to how it was at that point.

Making your credits go further

Every message you send to the builder uses credits. A few simple habits help them last longer:

  • Give lots of detail in your first message. It’s cheaper than lots of fixes afterwards.

  • Ask for several changes at once. One message with three changes uses fewer credits than three separate messages.

  • Choose Plan for bigger changes. You can check the plan before the builder starts work.

  • Change small bits of wording yourself. Use the T tool on the toolbar.

  • Stop a build that’s going wrong. While the builder is working, the send arrow turns into a stop button. Click it to stop.

  • Add photos or files. Click +, then Upload from device. You could add your logo, photos of your work, or a menu or price list.

  • Talk instead of type. Click the microphone and describe your website out loud.

  • Use your social media. Paste a link to your business’s social media page and ask the builder to make a website from it.

  • Moving from Lovable? Click +, then Import from Lovable.

Common questions

Why is it taking so long?

A first website usually takes around 15 minutes. If the credits number under your message keeps going up, the builder is still working. See [If your build seems slow].

Can anyone else see my website yet?

No. Only you can see it until you publish it.

Why has it made up a phone number or reviews?

If you didn’t give those details, the builder adds example text so you can see how the page will look. Swap in your real details before you publish.

I don’t like what it’s built. What can I do?

Tell the builder what you’d like to be different, or click Restore this version to go back a step. You can also start a fresh website from the builder’s home page.
