Taking Payments With Stripe
Taking payments with Stripe
Your website can take card payments, like deposits for bookings or payments for products. Payments are handled by Stripe, a well-known and secure payment company.
Add payments to your website
Just ask the builder, in the same way you’d ask for anything else. For example:
Add an online booking page where customers choose a service, a date and a time, and pay a £10 deposit.
You can include this in your first description, or ask for it later.
Test it first
The builder sets payments up in test mode to start with. This means you can try your checkout without anyone being charged.
To test it, go through your checkout in the preview and use this test card:
Card number: 4242 4242 4242 4242
Expiry date: any date in the future
Security code (CVC): any three numbers
Good to know: Test payments aren’t real. No money changes hands, and they won’t appear in your bank.
Start taking real payments
When you’re happy everything works, you can switch to real payments. You’ll need:
Your own Stripe account. You can create one for free at stripe.com. Stripe will ask for some details to check your business before you can be paid.
To publish your website, so customers can reach your checkout.
Then ask the builder to switch your payments to live.
Stripe charges a small fee on each payment. See Stripe’s website for their current fees.
Where to see bookings and orders
Bookings and orders made through your website are saved with it. You can ask the builder to show them to you, or to set up a private page where you can see them.
